Skills & Empowerment
Springboard target is to train over a thousand persons in various skills across the seventeen (17) Local Government Areas (LGA) over the next twenty-four months.
Currently, one hundred and fifty Abians are being trained in various skills under this programme in two centres located in Ukwa West LGA and Obingwa LGA in the first run of the First Phase. Funded by Vicar Hope Foundation in partnership with Abia State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (ASOPADEC), the programme was formally launched by Abia State Governor, Okezie Ikpeazu on the 22nd of March 2016 at the Central School Umuobiakwa, Obingwa.
The National Directorate of Employment NDE is facilitator to the programme. The beneficiaries will undergo three-months intensive training thatg includes business development skills. They will receive equipment and small start-up capital and the end of their training.
The Abia Skill Acquisition Programme is designed to impart skills to very select Abians. Similar to Springboard, TASAP is a one-off programme that identifies specific advanced skill-set and selects appropriate beneficiaries who would be attached to local and international organizations for specialized training. Such may include oil and gas welding, pilot training, security systems, ICT and Networking etc.
