Abia State is located in South East Nigeria with an estimated population of 3.5million persons, living in a land area of 6.5 square kilometers. Its population density is very high. Therefore social interactions that are ingredients for epidemic spread are readily available. Abia State is also home to a critical industrial and transportation hub of Nigeria. The state is predominantly a gateway to other parts of the country. With the large movement of people in and out of its boundaries, the attendant health challenges of new HIV infections are ever present. In spite of this situation, Abia State has kept its HIV/AIDS prevalence to 3.3percent through the functionality of collaborative efforts of government policy makers, stakeholders in health delivery and other agencies who have teamed up in the battle against HIV/AIDS.
VICAR HOPE FOUNDATION has offered its services in efforts to stem new infections as more and more children reach adolescence and sexual maturity. Right now, prevention happens to remain the surest way of battling the menace.
VICAR HOPE FOUNDATION is optimistic that new drugs and vaccines being formulated will provide a critical leg-up for the global elimination of HIV/AIDS and has positioned itself to commit manpower and resources to the final push towards removing HIV/AIDS from the face of the earth.
